This book is about a group of specialized astronauts who are sent to Mars to research the possibilities of extended living conditions. After five years of being separated from their family and friends, they are ready to come home. Only home is far from what they expect it to be. I've had an interest in space and astronauts since seeing the Challenger explosion. In the midst of a horrible tragedy, I wanted to learn more and possibly be one to go into space myself. I was in the 3rd grade at the time but things have changed for me now. I no longer have a desire to go into space myself but I was curious about the requirements. NASA has a wonderful website that outlines some of the requirements. The word astronaut means "space sailor". How interesting! There are different requirements for each job but every member of the team must be a US Citizen. Other requirements (depending on particular job) include educational background, physical agility, vision, log of flight hours, blood pressure and height requirements just to name a few. By going to NASA's website, you can learn more about the specific jobs as well.
