Fallen Star (The Divine Devils Book 2) by R Weir

Fallen Star: The Divine Devils Book 2Fallen Star: The Divine Devils Book 2 by R. Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Divine Devils....the kind of guys you definitely want on your side because they are not what you'd expect them to be!! I really wasn't sure what I was getting into when I picked up this book to read but I sure had a hard time putting it down once I got started!! Action packed from the get-go, Hunter is trying his best to clear his name in a previous incident when the Divine Devils are called back together for a new case. This one involves a very wealthy actress trying to get the extortionists off her back and her out of the lime-lime for nefarious reasons.
I'm going to have to go back and read the first book of this series just to "catch up" with more of the back stories of these characters and because if the first book is as good as this one, well, I just need to read it.

Stumble & Fall (A Legacy of Silence Book 2) by Amy Rivers

Stumble & Fall (A Legacy of Silence, #2)Stumble & Fall by Amy Rivers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this follow up to Complicit (which, in full disclosure, I have not yet read), Kate and Tilly are even more determined to do right for their communities. Tilly has found a new position as a SANE nurse and she and Jim have found a new place to live. Kate is working on a her fortress to house girls who are needing a place to escape the evilness they are being lured into.

This book is very fast paced, edge-of-your-seat kinda read. Just what I enjoy!! There are questions yet to be answered and I can't wait to read more of this story! I look forward to finding out answers to some of these burning questions in my mind and I will also be reading the first book to get more context for this one. I don't feel that it's necessary to grasp this story....this is a great stand-alone if needed. I'm just curious as to how some things came together.

Is your stumble and fall going to lead you to great places???

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a fun activity book! I would recommend it for any age, as the pictures aren't spooky even though they are Halloween related. Get out your crayons, colored pencils, gel pens, sharpie markers, even some paint and just have fun with this! The pictures are great sizes for all the mediums mentioned above. Make it a girls night and color before watching your favorite Halloween movie! :)

Grave Digger Academy (Grave Digger Academy Book 1) by C.A. King

Grave Digger AcademyGrave Digger Academy by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I almost didn't pick this one up to read but thought, why not? I'm so glad I took a chance on it!

It's Makayla's first year to attend academy and she spent some time choosing her top 3 picks, just like all witches get to do when they come of age. Her picks are in and she waits but hears nothing prior to the start of school. She wakes up late and misses her ride so she's doomed to take the bus. No one but losers ride the bus the school! She arrives at the door to the academy but isn't sure which specific realm she's assigned to. She quickly learns that she has to learn everything for herself. She's from a strong family of witches who've been accepted to the best and most prestigious schools so she has high hopes.

Makayla soon learns that she didn't get any of her top 3 choices, so the only other option was an assignment to the Grave Digger Academy. NO ONE applied or wanted the Grave Digger Academy and just wait until her dad hears about this.....her life is over!! Things start to come to light and Makayla begins learning more about her family, along with the mysterious amulet her mother gave her shortly before boarding the bus. Will she survive her first year? Even better, what about summer vacation after her first year?

This was a super fun read. There are elements of comedy (I laughed many times!), romance (very subtle), and paranormal activity. It is a very well written story that kept my attention throughout. I look forward to reading more books in this series!

A Love Restrained by Becky Flade

A Love Restrained (Philly Heat series, #1)A Love Restrained by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars!!

Kylee and Jayson come from two very different ways of life. Kylee comes from a large supportive family and Jayson comes from a life of abuse and abandonment. Kylee had a huge crush on Jayson when they were in high school but he totally broke her heart when he stood her up. The next time she sees him, Kylee's taking him down during a drug bust.

Can their differences bring them together or are they just an explosive bomb waiting to detonate?

This book was very enjoyable! There were a few times that the writing seemed just a bit wonky but the overall story made up for it in every way. There were several unexpected twists and turns, which I always enjoy when reading a book! I found myself rooting for all the right things towards the end and I was not disappointed in this book!

Moby Plays the Flute by Eeha Bhatt

Moby Plays the FluteMoby Plays the Flute by Eeha Bhatt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Moby has a problem" is how we are introduced to this sweet story. Moby is a young girl who feels like everyone and everything is against her. She sits at the back of the classroom until her dad encourages her to move to the front. She does and is ridiculed for an incorrect answer. Oh how she misses the back row! Moby then learns that her daddy is being called away for a long period of time with the Marines. He leaves her birthday gift with her. She sees a beautiful flute but when she tries to play it, it won't work. She throws it over in a pile of other "rejected" toys. She's missing her daddy but nothing seems to work out in her favor!
It's getting closer to another birthday and her dad is still away. He's not sending a gift this year. She talks to him about the "broken flute" and he tells her not to give up. What happens next is a huge lesson for everyone involved.

This book focuses on persistence and patience. It's a great book for youngsters of all ages, young and old alike!! It's a great book to show that being persistent and having confidence can change your outlook on everything!

Kara, Shieldmaiden of Eire (Forerunner Series Book 4) by Jay Veloso Batista

Kara Shieldmaiden of Eire (Forerunner book 4)Kara Shieldmaiden of Eire by Jay Veloso Batista
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kara is the focus of this book, while the other characters from this series also receive highlights throughout. Kara is coming of age and her mother and uncle are trying to find her a suitor. She's not having the ones they are presenting and decides to run away. It's the adventures that she faces that we read about in this story.
Cub and Thornfinn's stories are also further developed. There is a lot of action with both of these boys involving trolls, witches, and more!
I enjoyed this book and the series so far. I do get a little bogged down in the multitude of characters introduced. Sometimes it's difficult for me to keep them straight. This book also talks about certain characters at a time but their stories don't necessarily always meet up with each other. I have a hard time staying focused on what's happening with everyone with all the switching back and forth.
If you enjoy stories about Vikings, this series is for you!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Haunted Christmas by Kimberly Mullins

Notebook Mysteries Haunted ChristmasNotebook Mysteries Haunted Christmas by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Emma is well-known for her sleuthing skills and Evan is in need. His father died recently, under a cloud of suspicion. The police closed the case saying it was a self-inflicted incident but Evan knows better. He asks Emma and her team to figure out the haunting that is taking place at his dad's place.

This is a super short novella that reads pretty quickly! It has me in the Christmas spirit (no pun intended!)!!

I highly recommend this entire series. I read them out of order but I am now caught up for future adventures with Emma!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Emma (Notebook Mysteries Book 1) by Kimberly Mullins

Emma (Notebook Mysteries, #1)Emma by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great series!! I have read these books out of order but have thoroughly enjoyed reading about Emma and her family.

Emma is a pretty determined 16-year-old young lady. After the death of her mother, she takes over working at the bakery. She is the only other person who knows her mother's secret recipes. She feels like she is being followed or watched everyday as she goes to work and this intrigues her. Emma keeps a notebook full of observations that she makes so she adds this one to her list.

Working at the bakery isn't fulfilling Emma's needs for adventure so she starts moonlighting as a delivery boy with Tim. It's very frowned upon during that day and time! She sees so many things that she spends quite a bit of time each evening writing down observations in her notebook. It's then that she realizes that she may have just solved a crime and gets her foot in the door at Pinkerton's.

This is a very enjoyable book! It's full of mystery and intrigue, along with a small amount of romance. I recommend this entire series!!

Fatal Memory (Agent Red:Teagan Stone Series Book 1) by Ava S. King

Agent Red: Fatal Memory (Teagan Stone, #1)Agent Red: Fatal Memory by Ava S. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Teagan wakes up and finds herself chained to a bed. She's all confused and just wants to go home to her husband and kids. She has no memory of life before them but quickly starts to hear of her exploits as a spy for the Firm. She doesn't want that life but it seems like there may be no way out of it.

This book is a super fast read as it's only around 100 pages long. Due to the short length of the book, I felt that it was lacking development of the characters and the plot. There were parts of the story that didn't seem to flow. There was some action to it but not as much as I like to read about, but again, the story is pretty short and there is a lot packed into these short pages. I didn't like most of the people on Teagan's team because I'm pretty sure the majority of them are backstabbers. It goes to show you can never truly know who to trust!

Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale Book 1) by MK Harkins

Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale, #1)Ashes by M.K. Harkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'll admit, when this book first crossed my path, I dismissed it as just another retelling of the same story that I've heard for years. Boy, was I wrong! Yes, this is a retelling of the Cinderella story but with some very interesting and exciting twists and turns!!

Merilee has been in training for over 70 years. It's going to take her 100 to really get the hang of things. When the Queen Godmother announces an opportunity, Merilee is excited to take it on. Then the ground rules are laid....can Merilee carry out her task without breaking the rules??

Ashley is over love. Her dad is dead and everyone at school hates her. She's a freak because she lives and works in a funeral home. Her life is in turmoil living with her step-mother Veronica and her step sisters, the M&Ms. School is all abuzz one day when the principal announces that they will have a celebrity in their midst. Everyone needed to treat Harry as a "normal" person and not be grabbing his clothes or trying to get his autograph, or even worse, a date. Ashley has no cares about this said celebrity and just wants to go on with her life.

Harry is running for his life. He's tired of constantly being told who to hang around with, how to act, etc. It's when he gets in trouble for setting a fire in a school that he and his friend are sentenced to a small town high school to serve out their probation. What's six months in a drab, boring ole small town high school versus prison time?

I devoured this book in a mere few hours. It was a very fun read and the ending has me really looking forward to the next book in this series. Not at all what I expected but I am very happy that I gave this book the chance that it deserves!!

Dinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer's Eggs by Lois Wickstrom

Dinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer's EggsDinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer's Eggs by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love Lois Wickstrom books!! This is a special 2 books in 1.

In A Present for the Volcano, Conifer, a T-Rex and Spike, an ankylosaurus, are viewing the beautiful sight of nature but see a volcano that looks very unhappy. They decided to work together to make it a gift, which in turn, makes the volcano happy.

In Saving Conifer's Eggs, Spike finds Conifer guarding her nest of eggs to let her know that there is a forest fire happening around them. They need to find a safe place to keep Conifer's eggs so they work together in order to find that spot.

The illustrations in these books done by Nicolas Milano are very beautifully done! I love the stories too, how they use science to solve a problem.
