Knight Shadow: A female detective mystery (Jorja Knight Mystery #8) by Alice Bienia

Knight Shadow: A female detective mystery (Jorja Knight Mystery Series Book 8)Knight Shadow: A female detective mystery by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a hard book to put down and that didn't happen much. Jorja is really growing as a PI and finds ways to solve these crimes fairly quickly. She has a new partner that is an IT whiz and likes to show those skills off. This time, Jorja has to go old school to school the "know it all" partner of hers and prove that somethings are not as outdated as they seem.

This was a great read in this series. I'm still missing a few previous books that I am going to try to get caught up on soon!

Knight Blind (A Jorja Knight Mystery #1) by Alice Bienia

Knight Blind (Jorja Knight #1)Knight Blind by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a new series but I jumped ahead and have read some of these out of order. I'm glad that I've done this as I can see the author's progression in her writing style now. This wasn't my most favorite book of the series, but rarely is the first book most times.

Jorja is trying to get her life figured out from her past endeavors while trying to start up a new PI business. You know, girl power stuff! She gets hired out and her first big case is almost more than she can handle! She's out to find people and ends up being a target herself.

This was a good first novel and I do encourage readers to come back for more as the series does get more exciting!

Blackmailed (The Brown's of Butcher Hill #2) by Holly Bush

Blackmailed (The Browns of Butcher's Hill, #2)Blackmailed by Holly Bush
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Holly Bush has a way of pulling you into the story and you find yourself reading an entire book in one setting! This is the second book in the series, and I strongly recommend you read these in order to get the proper backstory.

This is a very loyal, passionate, crime-fighting family who once again finds themselves in the midst of a mystery. Sarah finds a dead man at the back of the dress shop where she is employed. Virginia can't seem to get Phillip off her mind. Together, the three of them work to solve a mystery of death, but also of love, family, and the ties that bind.

I can't leave this review without commenting on the beautiful cover of this novel!! I love the yellow dress and the scene that is displayed! It's one thing that drew me to this book and this series.

Montana Delta Rodeo Cowboy: Bodyguard Protector by Debra Parmley

Montana Delta Rodeo Cowboy: Bodyguard ProtectorMontana Delta Rodeo Cowboy: Bodyguard Protector by Debra Parmley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great read by Debra Parmley!

Emma Pearl (I love her name) is on the run from the Mexican cartels in Montana. She ends up changing her name (I still love her) and finds herself in need of a bodyguard. She finds herself in some precarious situations and with the help of Nathan and Destry, finds some solace.

I loved this story from beginning to end. There were a few slow spots but sometimes it's needed to allow for breathing. I love that there is a male nurse featured in this story. They don't get enough credit!

Great read!

The Super Students: First Day of School by Ariane Erickson

The Super Students: First Day of SchoolThe Super Students: First Day of School by Ariane Erickson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's been a busy day for the super students of Midtown School for Young Heroes! They first said goodbye to their parents, met their teacher Mr. Stan, and then things got a little crazy! Every student had a part to play in the capturing of the beloved class pet, but not without some excitement.

This is a very colorful book with nice graphics. Kids will love the story and adults will too!

The Moon Gift: A Moon Festival Tale by Anders Roseberg

The Moon Gift: A Moon Festival TaleThe Moon Gift: A Moon Festival Tale by Anders Roseberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a touching retelling of an ancient Chinese folklore about four friends. Fox, Rabbit, Monkey, and Otter are all challenged to show compassion to someone in order to earn The Moon Gift. Each animal sets out to solve a challenge that they were each presented. Once they bring their "offerings" to the situation, a winner is chosen.

There are so many lessons that can be made from this book. There is teaching about the stages of the moon in the beginning and also at the end of the book. There can be applications made about differences and similarities among people and how different people face challenges in different ways. There is a moral story here as well. That's just a few of the great things about this book.

I found myself getting teary eyed on this one. Sensitive littles may find themselves having some emotions that they may not have expected reading this book. It's a good time to share with them about how feelings are okay to show too.

Add this one to your library!

A Powerful Season (Unfinished Business: Stories of Bold Women) by Kathryn Dodson

A Powerful SeasonA Powerful Season by Kathryn Dodson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have enjoyed reading books by this author and I did enjoy this one as well. However, it's not my favorite of them all. I felt like this story was a bit pushy at times, both in regards to the way Lacy spoke to her adult children, as well as her newfound stance on life. I did applaud her for her gumption to try new things as she approaches retirement and not just dwindle off into the sunset.

A good read for a quiet afternoon!
